Kael Thomas Teeter

Here I am a few days before delivering. I measured 28 weeks at this point, but little did we know he'd be 5 lbs 15 ounces!

Kael Thomas Teeter was born on Feb. 2, 2011 at 8:36 am. He weighed 5 lbs 15 ounces and was 19 inches long. He was born just before 37 weeks because of low amniotic fluid and IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction). I started to get worried when I found out at my 35 week ultrasound that Kael hadn't grown like he should and that my fluid levels were low. My Dr. decided that she would deliver the next week if he continued to not grow. Then when the time came that he didn't grow again she decided it was no big deal and that she would keep waiting. I was concerned and decided it was about time to get a second opinion on the matter. I called my old Dr. in Pocatello to get his opinion. He had delivered Havyn and knew my history. He told me to come right in the next day, and looking at my chart he immediately decided this baby needed to be born before things got much worse. He put me on the schedule for the next time he'd be doing surgery, and Kael was born. We weren't sure how healthy he'd be, and we were prepared for NICU again. In fact, the Dr.  had told me he'd probably need the NICU, and they had a nurse from the NICU in the OR with us as Kael was delivered. As soon as he was out they handed him over and checked him out. They discovered that he seemed to be doing well so they brought him over to see me before taking him to the well baby nursery. I couldn't believe how well he seemed to be dealing, and sat in recovery wondering when they'd come tell me the news that he had been taken to the NICU. That never happened! When I got to my room he was there too, and he continued to do well. He only lost 4 ounces in the hospital, and he came home with us today!
